Why Should You Drink Vive Shake? It’s CRAZY Good!

Six years ago when I decided to formulate a product like Vive!, I had many criteria that had to be met for the project to get beyond the discussion stage.  I was determined to develop a product that delivered what I believe are the most important key areas of nutrition required for vibrant health (Vitamins, minerals, enzymes, essential fatty acids, fiber, heart healthy fats, antioxidants, prebiotics and probiotics). It had to taste great and make great nutrition simple!

Vive is a whole foods nutritional drink mix containing a blend of raw organic vegetables and fruits blended with special herbs and spices, antioxidants and additional nutrients. This proprietary blend of super-foods and nutrients makes Vive the perfect choice to support a healthy and active lifestyle! Vive Shake is not only incredibly nutritious, but is delicious and simple to use.

My strict requirements included:

  • Vive had to be GMO free, Lactose Free and Gluten free
  • Vive had to have the highest quality ingredients available (many supplement manufacturers use inferior ingredients that are not absorbed very well, if at all)
  • Vive had to be whole food based
  • Vive had to fulfill a wide range of nutritional requirements. (Vitamins, minerals, enzymes, essential fatty acids, fiber, heart healthy fats, antioxidants, prebiotics and probiotics)
  • Vive had to have an almost perfect ratio of carbohydrates, fats and proteins (to make sure nutrients were absorbed quickly and the body could use them.)
  • Must be a low sugar product
  • Must have no preservatives, artificial ingredients or non nutritive ingredients
  • Must have a good source of healthy fibers
  • Must have high quality, absorbable protein  (our whey is GMO free, lactose free and a cross micro cold filtered concentrate)
  • Vive must be one product that meets most nutritional requirements for most people. (I was tired of having to take many different products to get the nutrition I needed)
  • It had to be in a delivery format that was easy and enjoyable. (I wanted to look forward to taking Vive so it had to taste good and be very simple to use.)
  • It had to be affordable. (There is a delicate balance of quality and nutritional goals and keeping a product affordable for everyone)

It took over 3 years and 3 versions formulating the perfect product.   Today, Vive is available in two delicious flavors that meet all of our goals and delivers  life changing nutritional benefits to our customers.

What really sets Vive! apart from the competition is our quality and special ingredients.

Many supplement manufacturers use cheaper and less absorbable ingredients. They do this because the high quality nutrients cost more. They worry about cost, we focus on results.

A few examples of our quality commitment:

  • Vitamin C-Most supplements give you only ascorbic acid, which can be synthetic Vitamin C. Vive provides Vitamin C from food (acerola cherries), insuring you get all of the additional antioxidants found combined with Vitamin C in its natural food form.  Studies show that natural Vitamin C from food provides up to 35% greater Vitamin C uptake into our bodies and because of the other naturally occurring nutrients that are pared in nature with Vitamin C, it provides greater overall health.
  • The Vitamin B12 we use in Vive is Methylcobalamin which is the form your body prefers for Vitamin B12. Most supplement manufacturers use a less absorbable version of B12, cyanocobalamine, which is poorly absorbed and made in a laboratory. The body has to convert cyanocobalamin into methylcobalamin? Methylcobalamin has a much more powerful effect on Central Nervous System Health, vision, sleep and heart health.
  • In Vive we give you all eight forms of Vitamin E. Most supplements only give you one form of synthetic Vitamin E. This is a big difference because studies show that taking the isolated synthetic version of Vitamin E can potentially cause heart problems. No studies show any adverse health issues with naturally occurring Vitamin E.
  • Vive provides multiple types of fibers to help create a health digestive system, Fiber is important for detoxing harmful chemicals, removing unhealthy fats, lowering cholesterol levels, slowing blood sugar intake and by providing prebiotics which are the food for probiotics. Oh, and fiber helps keep us regular which is very important!!

In Vive! we use a base of foods that are real super foods –  foods that are abundant with nutrition. Your body absorbs nutrition from food better than in an isolated or synthetic form.  These foods provide thousands of health promoting compounds and nutrients. They are rich in cell protecting antioxidants like Co-Q-10, alpha lipoic acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Selenium, anthocyanins, carotenoids, flavonoids, and rich in enzyme compounds like gamma oryzanol (builds muscle), Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH). SOD and GSH are the most powerful protectors inside each of your cells. They are the master antioxidant defenders in your cell and protect against premature aging!

The base of Vive is rice bran and germ. Rice bran is highly nutritious and confers many health benefits. According to studies rice bran helps reduce blood glucose levels in type 1 and type 2 diabetes and reduces serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Rice bran is rich in many antioxidants (over 120), B vitamins, minerals, heart healthy oils and fibers. Rice bran is one of the only foods to provide the complete spectrum of Vitamin E.

Vive’s secret power punch! To really give Vive that extra health punch, blood sugar support and weight loss potential, we added green coffee bean extract (which studies have shown to increase fat loss), banaba leaf extract (to support healthy blood sugar levels), and the herb coleus forskohlii (to support healthy fat loss without muscle loss and an increase in metabolism). Coleus forskolii also helps prevent cramping and may help reduce high blood pressure. Additionally, we added quercetin an antioxidant with many great health benefits. Many studies show Quercetin may protect the heart, fight cancer, reduce histamine levels created by allergens and stress, lower cholesterol .  Another powerful addition to Vive is Eleuthro, also know as Siberian Gensing. Eleuthro is an herb that can help the body fight infections, boost energy, improve type 2 diabetes (by improving insulin resistance and pancreatic islet cell function), protect the heart and is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent.

Vive can also be used in so many different nutritional roles. Vive is anti-inflammatory, is healthy for our digestive system, is great for building muscle, and improves sports performance and recovery. Vive is great for weight loss because it controls hunger and feeds the body very important nutrients needed to burn fat. Vive helps support healthy blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels. Vive is also great for children and parents with busy schedules that need their nutrition in a hurry.

In literally 1 minute you can mix Vive, then drink in all of your nutritional needs going to school or work. Now you can enjoy your day knowing that your body is well fed!

Vive It’s as easy as 1-2-3!  Shake It – Drink It – Live It!

You Have Disrespected This Food Long Enough!

TomatoPie_001It can be sweet yet tart, it may show it`s real colors as yellow, orange, red, and green. This delightful fruit has over a thousand different varieties that can decorate your plate in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. This food is used in more recipes than almost any other food. Although it is a fruit, it is used most often as a savory part of a recipe. But it can also be made into a delicious pie. Do you have a clue which food I am talking about?

Rhubarb? Lychee? Dragon Fruit? Paw Paw? Cherries? Nope!

Keep guessing!!

The star of thousands of recipes, drum roll…………………

The Tomato!!

Tomato, Tamato however you say it, meh… It doesn’t conjure up thoughts of exotic flavors or leave us envisioning it wearing the cape of super nutrition. The tomato is so widely used it’s nutritional super hero status has been forgotten or at the least minimized. We have taken the TOMATO for granted! Shame on us.

I think the tomato is lost in a sea of new super-foods, yet it may be one of the most versatile and most powerful of all  foods.! How many ways can the tomato be used? The versatile tomato; tomato juice, tomato soup, tomato sauce, tomato paste, BBQ sauce, ketchup, spaghetti sauce, marinara sauce, salsa, you get the picture. But what I don’t hear are people talking about is the mighty tomato; it’s health benefits, its great flavor, its boldness or tartness.  The humble tomato has been overlooked and it is now time to bring it to the front where it rightfully belongs. If you think about it, the tomato is what makes many dishes shine. Without it as an ingredient what would spaghetti sauce be, or salsa or seafood gumbo or Manhattan clam chowder? I’m sure you can think of dozens of more dishes where the TOMATO is the star, right?

Tomato’s cross all cultural food boundaries. From African, Mexican, Latin, Spanish, Caribbean, Greek, Italian, Oriental, European and certainly American cuisines.

During the spring and summer growing season in the southeast where I live, nothing is better appreciated than a hand-picked organic tomato sliced and made into the famous BLT or bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich. Everyone has their favorite condiments to go with it and favorite bread. Most of which aren’t so healthy. They slather mayo on white bread then top it off with iceberg lettuce and bacon for a BLT.  I have to admit it does have a marvelous (hear Billy Crystal’s “marvelous darling”) taste but it can be artery clogging also.  There is a much healthier version.  Use Ezekiel bread, fresh organic tomato, Vegenaise, low sodium turkey bacon, Himalayan salt and fresh cracked organic black pepper a dash of cumin and romaine or a crisp butter lettuce. This is a yummy sandwich!!

Disclaimer : If you have an auto-immune condition eating tomato’s and other nightshade plants may make the conditions worse. These plants affect everyone differently. Try a little and if you don’t have any problems try more.

Let’s talk about why the tomato should be a routine part of your culinary pallet.

There are literally thousands of different types of tomato’s meaning you are not stuck with just a Beefsteak or Roma tomatoes. Tomato’s are loaded with vitamins, minerals and many powerful antioxidants. We always hear about lycopene but the tomato, my friend, is packed with several antioxidants! In fact, the tomato comes in different colors like orange and yellow and the lycopene in the orange and yellow tomatos are better absorbed, than the lycopene from the red tomato.

While all tomatoes have good antioxidant capacity, four varieties of tomatoes turned out to have a higher average antioxidant capacity compared with other tomato varieties regardless of whether they were grown conventionally or organically. The New Girl, Jet Star, Fantastic, and First Lady tested highest but only marginally higher in antioxidant capacity. This means all tomato’s have good antioxidant, anti-aging power. What makes the tomato an antioxidant superstar is the variety of antioxidants they contain. If you want super antioxidant power from the tomato don’t peel them. A lot of the antioxidant power is in the peeling. A cooked tomato is going to have a higher absorption rate of the antioxidant lycopene but not necessarily of the other antioxidants. Tomatoes have several types of antioxidants giving them a big cross-section of health promoting benefits.

Tomato’s provide cardiovascular health benefits and reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides levels. They help prevent fatty acid oxidation which can damage our cardiovascular system and heart. Many of the phytonutrients in tomato’s have shown the ability to help keep blood platelets from clumping. This helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Tomato’s are a good source of Vitamin A, rich in Vitamin C and a great source of many B Vitamins B1, B3, B5, B6, Choline, Folate and Biotin. Tomato’s are a great source of Vitamin E, Vitamin K, a good source of many minerals including iron, potassium, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, phosphorous. Tomato’s are also a great source of fiber and 1 cup of tomato’s has 3 grams of protein!

Tomato’s Health Benefits

  • Tomato’s provide bone building health properties. Lycopene, Vitamin K, Vitamin C and Vitamin A are very important for bone health. Studies show lycopene is particularly important at preventing oxidative stress in bones.
  • Tomato’s offer many cancer preventing benefits, particularly prostate cancer.
  • Tomato’s help prevent our stored fats (triglycerides) from becoming cellular damaging oxidized fatty acids.
  • Tomato’s protect our blood vessels by providing nutrients that keep the cell membranes flexible and protect against blood vessel cell wall oxidative damage.
  • Tomato’s help keep blood platelets from clumping together.
  • Tomato’s help prevent premature-aging by providing a super arsenal of anti-oxidants that protect our DNA
  • Tomato’s provide health promoting and protective benefits for our vision.
  • Tomato’s provide nutrients that keep our skin soft and flexible and help protect against sun damage.

When you look closely at the nutritional profile of tomato’s you will want to have them everyday. Inside that round or oblong shaped fruit is a powerhouse of health promoting and anti-aging nutrition. Check this out.

Love Your Heart So It Can Love Even More!

Heart in handsThe lifestyle you live has the biggest impact on your heart health. Even if heart disease runs in your family you can trump those genetics by adopting a heart healthy lifestyle!

First know that cholesterol is not the enemy, your body actually makes 800 to 1500 mgs of cholesterol daily! Your hearts enemies are foods that cause systemic inflammation in your arteries forcing cholesterol to be used to patch and repair vascular sores. These foods are prevalent in the American diet.

What you are about to read should make you run in your kitchen and fire up a salad, smoothie or Vive. Did you know that a plant-based diet has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of and even reverse heart and cardiovascular disease?  You can listen to Dr. Dean Ornish and some of his patients at this link. http://www.youtube.com/user/DrDeanOrnish

Many factors can affect our heart health. Our diet (excessive simple sugars), stress, and other lifestyle factors like smoking and the amount of physical activity we get play a huge role in heart health.

In about a day your heart beats 100,000 times pumping around 2000 gallons of blood to 100 trillion cells through 60 thousand miles of blood vessels.  Every time I  think of that it amazes me!

The heart is not just an organ, it is also a muscle.  The heart requires a lot of energy and quality nutrition to keep it healthy.  Your heart is a very unique organ and unlike other organs and muscles, it does not become fatigued. It only stops when oxygen is no longer available.

Exercise increases the hearts fitness so it can deliver more oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. Develop a good exercise program after approval from your doctor!

Because of the great energy requirements put on the heart, nutrition is very important.  Vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, enzymes and antioxidants are super important for heart health.

  • Plant based foods provide a bounty of nutrients and antioxidants the body needs for great heart health.
  • Studies show Nuts and seeds consumed daily reduce the risk for heart disease. They are anti-inflammatory and a good source of Vitamin E, which, is very important for cell membrane health and is also an antioxidant.
  • Omega 3’s from Salmon, sardines, ground flax seed and walnuts reduce inflammation and keep blood platelets from sticking, reducing the risk for cardiovascular disease
  • Antioxidants in fruits and vegetables reduce inflammation and protect the heart from free radical damage.  The greater the volume of oxygen is needed in a cell to make energy, the higher the potential for free radical damage.  The heart is a big air and fluid pump.  So antioxidants are even more important for the heart muscle.
  • Magnesium is very important for heart health because it helps blood vessels relax, potentially reducing blood pressure, which, if high, can damage the heart.
  • B Vitamins are critical for preparing foods for the conversion to energy.
  • B12, Folate and B6 are critical to reduce the protein homocysteine from accumulating in our tissues. Homocysteine causes cellular damage to the heart and blood vessels and heavily associated with heart disease.
  • Iron, B12, Vitamin C and Folate are important to make healthy red blood cells and blood vessels.
  • Vitamin E from food and Co-Q10 from foods are important heart protectors.

Some of the best foods for heart health are:

  • Nuts and seeds (walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pecans)
  • Avocado
  • Dark chocolate
  • Leafy greens (spinach, kale, collards, mustard greens, turnip greens)
  • Asparagus
  • Broccoli
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Bananas
  • Bell peppers
  • Hot peppers
  • Tomatoes
  • Beans (pinto, garbanzo, black)
  • Lentils
  • Pomegranate
  • Blueberries
  • Goji Berries
  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries
  • Salmon
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Amaranth
  • Buckwheat
  • Oats
  • Quinoa
  • Wild rice

Heart Health Destroyers

Sadly the American diet is the perfect diet if you want poor heart health. It is rich in sodium, sugar and bad fats and low in nutrient rich foods like vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts and seeds and whole grains, which promote health.

If you love your heart it would be best to avoid or limit these foods in your diet. These foods are health destroyers!

  • Foods high in saturated fats and cholesterol (meats, processed meats, eggs, cows milk and cheese)
  • Processed meats
  • Foods high in sodium
  • Foods high in sugars particularly added sugars such as (refined sugar, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, confectioners sugar, brown sugar etc..)
  • Fried foods
  • Flour based foods (includes breading on fried foods, cookies, crackers, cereals, pastries, breads, pasta) Flour can turn to blood sugar as quickly as table sugar.
  • Excess sugar is a powerful risk factor in your diet because it creates inflammation and sores in your arteries, which forces your body to use cholesterol to repair them. This makes arteries stiffer creating more sores or tears requiring more cholesterol.  It’s a vicious cycle that accelerates heart and vascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.

Other Heart Health Factors

  • Stress is a killer! It creates hormonal changes that raise blood pressure, cause obesity and eventually damage your heart.
  • A lack of exercise let’s muscles atrophy, becoming weaker. Your heart and blood vessels are muscles and need exercise to be in top health.
  • A lack of sleep creates systemic stress putting additional stress on your heart.
  • Cigarettes destroy your blood vessels and lungs. Both are critical for your heart to be healthy.
  • Limit alcohol to no more than 3 drinks per week.

Summary

Having 2 smoothies a day filled with every color of vegetable and fruit, nuts and seeds is going to get you on the right track for great heart health.

  • Have Vive twice per day to make sure you are getting the heart healthy nutrients you need. You can add Vive to smoothies and make them even better!
  • Avoid added sugars; the healthiest sweeteners are stevia and raw honey.
  • Reduce your intake of animal fats
  • Make your diet mostly vegetables, fruits, beans and nuts and seeds and limited low glycemic whole grains
  • Exercise daily
  • De-stress by exercising, enjoying friends and laughing!
  • Reduce your salt intake to 1300 mgs per day to reduce blood pressure.
  • Drink plenty of clean water
  • Get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep nightly

Happy healthy eating!

Vive! The Difference Maker in Nutritional Health!

Vive! Nutrition Made Simple
Vive! Nutrition Made Simple

Over three years ago when I decided to formulate a product like Vive!, I had many criteria that had to be met for the project to get beyond the discussion stage.  I was determined to develop a product that delivered, what I believe are, the most important  seven key areas of nutrition required for vibrant health.

It took over 3 years and 3 versions formulating the perfect product.   Today, Vive! is available in two delicious flavors that meet all of our goals and delivers  life changing nutritional benefits to our customers.

What really sets Vive! apart from the competition is our quality.

Many supplement manufacturers use cheaper and less absorbable ingredients. They do this because the high quality nutrients cost more.

A few examples of our quality commitment:

  • Vitamin C comes in multiple forms in foods. Most supplements give you only ascorbic acid, which is synthetic Vitamin C, and only one form of it. Vive! provides  Vitamin C from food, insuring you get all types of Vitamin C.  Nature gives us multiple types of Vitamin C so don’t you think our bodies need all types?
  • The Vitamin B12 we use in Vive! is Hydroxocobalamin and Methylcobalamin which is the form your body prefers for Vitamin B12. Most supplement manufacturers use the synthetic version of B12, cynocobalamine, which is poorly absorbed and also very cheap. It actually has a cyanide molecule attached to it. Who wants that?
  • In Vive! we give you all eight forms of Vitamin E. Most supplements only give you one form of synthetic Vitamin E. This is a big difference because studies show that taking the isolated synthetic version of Vitamin E can potentially cause heart problems. No studies show any adverse health issues with naturally occurring Vitamin E.

SOD and GSH are the most powerful protectors inside each of your cells. They are the cells defenders!

To really give Vive! that extra nutritional punch and weight loss potential, we added green coffee bean extract (which studies have shown to increase fat loss), banana leaf extract (to support healthy blood sugar levels), and the herb coleus forskohli (to support healthy fat loss).

Vive! can also be used in so many different nutritional roles. Vive! is anti-inflammatory, is healthy for our digestive system, is great for building muscle, and improves sports performance and recovery. Vive! is great for weight loss because it controls hunger, feeds the body very important nutrients needed to burn fat, and helps support healthy blood sugar levels. Vive! is also great for children and parents with busy schedules that need their nutrition in a hurry.

In literally 2 minutes you can mix Vive!, drink in all of your nutritional needs before leaving for school or work, and live your day knowing that your body is well fed!

Vive! It’s as easy as 1-2-3!  Shake It – Drink It – Live It!

Why is an Orange, Orange Part II

I guess you could say I am passionate about food, really more about the nutritional impact. The foods we eat make us healthy or not. So, please indulge yourself with lots of colorful foods from nature every day.

The colors of natural foods actually play an important role in our health. Each color offers unique ingredients that can give healing and support to our bodies. So, lets take a look at these colors and see what they do.

When you see these colors, I want you to think; anti-aging, a reduced risk of heart and cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, cancers, arthritis, high blood pressure, dementia, they reduce inflammation and provide a big boost to your immune system etc…. and the list of health benefits just keeps going.

YELLOW/ORANGE foods contain beta carotene and lutein are rich in Vitamin C and folate.

These foods help protect the brain, lower the risk of some cancers, support heart health and vision health, and support a healthy immune system. The orange in sweet potatoes, pumpkins, carrots and butternut squash can be converted to Vitamin A in our bodies. However, citrus fruits do not contain much beta carotene but they are rich in Vitamin C and folate.

These foods also maintain healthy mucus levels in the body, keep our skin healthy, help keep blood vessels flexible, improve our vision and aid in healthy bone health.

Beta carotene may also help reduce cholesterol levels in some people according to a scientific study.

Some food sources are:

  • Yellow apples
  • Apricots
  • Butternut squash
  • Cantaloupe
  • Carrots
  • Grapefruit
  • Lemons
  • Mangoes

Red/Pink Foods contain the antioxidant lycopene

Cherries

RED foods contain lycopene which is also a anthocyanin.  The red and pink foods help protect the brain, lower the risk of some cancers, support heart health, urinary tract health, and prostate health.  The lycopene in tomatoes are better absorbed when cooked and eaten with a little fat than when eaten raw.

The lycopene in tomatoes, watermelon and pink grape fruit may help reduce the risk of many cancers but particularly,  prostate cancer. The antioxidants in strawberries, grapes and other foods help prevent cellular damage reducing the risk for other adverse health conditions.

Some food sources are:

  • Red apples
  • Beets

Why is an Orange, Orange? Part 1

Delicious Orange

Have you ever wondered why foods are different colors? I think most of us have at some point.

The Benefits of the Five Colors of the Vegetative World

The five color categories are blue/purple, green, white, yellow/orange, and red. These colors identify unique antioxidants and chemicals that have powerful health promoting properties. Each color makes a unique contribution to our health and provides a lower risk of developing chronic diseases. Many vegetables come in multiple colors such as carrots, cauliflower, Swiss chard and asparagus.  This means multiple benefits!

Blueberries

BLUE/PURPLEfoods contain anthocyanin’s.

These foods are rich in antioxidants called anthocyanins. They are anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and lower the risk of some cancers. They also promote urinary tract health, help with memory function, and support healthy aging. Studies show eating blueberries may help slow or prevent dementia.

Some food sources:

  • Blackberries
  • Blueberries
  • Eggplant
  • Figs
  • Juneberries
  • Plums
  • Prunes
  • Purple grapes
  • Raisins

GREEN foods contain chlorophyll, lutein, zeaxanthin and  sulforaphanes.

Rainbow Chard

These foods improve immune function, lower the risk of some cancers, protect against aging, promote vision health, and support strong bones and healthy teeth. Some members of the green group, including spinach and other dark leafy greens, green peppers, peas, cucumber and celery, contain lutein. Lutein works with another antioxidant, zeaxanthin to keep eyes healthy.  As you can see nutrients from natural foods work together to build healthy bodies!

Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables contain “indoles” which may help protect against some types of cancer.

Some of the foods sources are

  • Green apples
  • Artichokes

A Mysterious Superfood You Should Make a Part of Your Daily Routine!

Mysterious Superfood
Mysterious Superfood

In today’s world of exotic fruits, mushrooms and strange vegetables, it is easy to over look less sexy foods.  In the nutritional circles and functions I attend the buzz is around exotic fruits, herbs, vegetables and mushrooms such as Gojo Berry, Lucuma, Maca, Astragalus, Ho Shu Wu, Rishi and Chaga etc... These are just the tip of the iceberg in the über ( highest, elite ) super foods family that gets everyone’s attention.  All of these have powerful health restorative properties. However, natures most nutrient dense super food is sitting right in front of us everyday. Because it’s parent source is so common, it is over looked by many. You may not even know about it until now.

Many people eat it every week, however not in the form that provides super dense nutrition that can truly help restore health and in many cases reverse adverse health conditions.  In fact, it is so powerful it is used medicinally to treat high cholesterol, high urine calcium and diabetes.  So, have you got an idea what food I may be talking about. I’ll give you a hint; its tan, brown and black in its natural form, it is a staple for certain cultures and it can be made into flour, cheese, wine, beer, liquor and eaten whole.  Do you know what it is? It has a slightly sweet and nutty flavor, you can put it on almost any food or eat it by itself.

I have a client that is missing a few feet of intestine, 1/2 of their colon, 1 kidney, has COPD and is on oxygen most of the day, adrenal failure and heart issues. The past few months she has been eating this food in large quantities and for the first time in several years her health is improving. She was having reoccurring pneumonia and bronchitis and now her immune system is functioning at a much higher level. She can actually do light house work without the oxygen, and can enjoy the outdoors again. Her doctor was amazed that she is building health now previously he told her she would continue to get worse and eventually it would take her life.  This tells you just how powerful food is to our body.

What if I told you that the bran and the germ from rice is the single most nutrient dense food in the world.  Would you have guessed that rice bran and rice germ is the food I am talking about? Probably not.  It takes 20 to 30 pounds of brown rice to make one pound of the rice bran and rice germ.  Ounce for ounce no other single food has as deep and rich of a vitamin, mineral, essential fatty acid, enzymatic, phytonutrient and antioxidant content.

Rice bran and rice germ ( for brevity sake rice bran) is hypoallergenic and is gentle enough for even infants yet a super powerhouse of health ( in depth detail ) for adults!.  The bran and germ of the rice is where about 85% of the nutritional power of the rice kernel is stored. The bran part of rice is extremely nutrient dense. Only recently, technology has developed methods for stabilizing the healthy oils in rice bran and germ. An enzyme in the bran causes the oil in the bran to go rancid very quickly. Now the bran of the rice kernel can be removed and stored for a longer period without damaging the super nutrition contained in the bran part of the rice kernel.

Rice bran has many health promoting benefits as well as providing an abundant source of energy. Several studies have shown that rice bran has cholesterol lowering abilities, blood sugar stabilizing ability for type I and type II diabetics. Furthermore a *study stated that ” Diseases in which preventive and/or nutraceutical effects have been detected include: cancer, hyperlipidemia (high blood cholesterol), fatty liver, hypercalciuria ( high concentrates of calcium in the urine), kidney stones, and heart disease. In addition, rice-bran products may have potential applications as nutritional ingredients in the context of their utility in functional foods.” Source: Jariwalla RJ. Anti-Aging, Live Longer and Healthier

Did you know you have a profound affect on how quickly your body ages?  Every morning looking in the mirror can tell us how we are aging externally. The real issue is how you are aging internally. How well are your cells and ultimately your organs and glands holding up against the daily assault of free radicals, toxins, stress and nutritional deficiencies?  The idea is to slow down the aging process if we can.  There are a few things you can do to not only reduce the aging process but maybe even reverse it in some cases.

How Can We Slow Down Aging?

So what does aging really mean? Technically, aging is a combination of all metabolic life activities, effects of exposure to toxins, microbial agents, nutrient deficiencies and their total combined effect over time on the body’s cells.

As part of life, we are exposed to micro-organisms, environmental toxins, drugs, emotional toxicities, unhealthy foods, nutrient deficiencies and stress, let’s call these “negative health catalyst”, or NHC. These NHCs have a direct impact on our cells ability to continue to replicate in a healthy state. NHCs can cause damage to the cell and even DNA in our cells. They do this in different ways. In one case they cause free radicals to form that can damage the cells and even the DNA in the cell to the point that the cell will begin to replicate itself in an unhealthy state.  In another way they lower our immune function to the point that the immune system is not healthy enough to stop the growth of bacteria, viruses, micro organisms and even mutated cells and the mutated cells can multiply to the point of disease. In another way they turn on the adverse health potential of certain genes to express themselves as disease and illness, but potentially the most damaging effect of these NHCs is their ability to shorten our telomeres and cause damage to our DNA through free radical damage to our cells.

What Causes Aging?

My opinion is that the biggest causes of aging are:

What Are Telomeres?

In this Illustration The Red Caps Are Telomeres

Our genes are located on twisted, double-stranded molecules of DNA called chromosomes. At the ends of the chromosomes are stretches of DNA called telomeres, Telomeres are protective DNA-protein complexes, which protect our genetic data, make it possible for cells to divide and hold some secrets to how we age and get cancer. Think of the plastic caps on the end of your shoe laces. This is sort of what the telomeres look like. They keep the strands of chromosomes from unraveling. As the effects of NHCs advance our cellular aging the telomeres get shorter and shorter.   Once the telomeres get so short, the cell can no longer replicate and over time aging accelerates.

In 2009 three American scientists who discovered telomeres were awarded The 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology of Medicine. Their work began a couple of decades earlier. What they discovered only enhances our belief that the way we live has an undeniable impact on the status of our health. Although this research certainly identifies the damage caused by the shortening of our telomeres , further research is underway to fully understand its role in life longevity and the advancement of disease and illness.

To strengthen our telomere’s we must increase the presence of the enzyme telomerase in our cells. Telomerase is an enzyme that is responsible for keeping telomeres healthy. As we age our bodies produce less and less telomerase thus we begin to age faster and faster. In addition the NHC’s also slow down the cellular production of telomerase.

How do we slow down the aging Process?

By living a lifestyle of wellness we greatly enhance our potential for slowing the aging process and having a life of vibrant health.  Recent studies even show that a lifestyle of wellness actually can increase the cellular production of telomerase and improve overall health. If we remove NHC’s and include nutrient dense foods, pure water, relaxation, adequate sleep, health building exercise, fresh air, sunshine and emotional and spiritual balance, we can improve every facet of our health potential. You can in many cases trump genetic tendencies.  The way you live has such a powerful effect on your health that it literally can mean the difference between sudden death and a life of longevity with vibrant health.
